Inverse bicontinuous cubic phases in 2:1 fatty acid/phosphatidylcholine mixtures. The effects of chain length, hydration, and temperature
Article Abstract:
The phase and structural behavior of inverse bicontinuous cubic phases in a homologous series of 2:1 saturated fatty acid/phosphatidylcholine mixtures in water were studied. Three inverse bicontinuous cubic phases were found for the C(sub 12) fatty acid/phosphatidylcholine mixtures. These phases are noted to occur in the sequence G->D->P between 35 and 49 degrees C with increasing water content. Only the P cubic in coexistence with the inverse hexagonal phase is found for C(sub 14) fatty acid/phosphatidylcholine mixtures. The inverse bicontinuous cubics are conspicuously absent for longer chain length fatty acid/phosphatidylcholine mixtures, as they are replaced by the inverse hexagonal phase.

Critical factor for detection of biphasic changes in membrane properties at specific sterol mole fraction for maximal superlattice formation
Article Abstract:
The experimental conditions that are required to detect a biphasic change in membrane properties at specific sterol mole fractions for maximal sterol superlattice formation are explored. The analysis has described the mechanic understanding of sterol superlattice formation and those requiring high lipid concentrations that did not detect a biphasic change in membrane properties.

Differential properties of the sterols cholesterol, ergostrerol,beta-sitosterol,trans-7-dehydrocholesterol, stigmasterol, lanosterol on DPPC bilayer order
Article Abstract:
A study to identify and characterize the effects of various sterols including cholesterol, ergosterol by using fluorescence depolarization techniques is presented. The TMA-DPA a amphiphilic probe molecule detects the interaction between the rigid ring system of the sterols with the upper acyl chain region of the phospholipids.
