Ion accumulation in a biological calcium channel: effects of solvent and confining pressure

Article Abstract:

An extension of the Nonner, Catacuzzeno, and Eisenberg (NCE) and Busath, Henderson, and Sokolowski (BBHS) models of the EEEE locus in several ways are presented. The study concluded that the modeled EEEE locus could accommodate relatively large ions if the confinement by the protein allows for some volume expansion.

Calcium iron permeation through the calcium release channel (ryanodine receptor) of cardiac muscle

Article Abstract:

Ryanodine receptors (RyRs) are Ca(super ++) channels that control cellular functions. An estimation of the RyR2 ion diffusion constants and electrostatic interactions, in a self-consistent coherent formulation, is provided by the extended PNP.
