Isotope-based discrimination between the infrared modes of plastosemiquinone anion radicals and neutral tyrosyl radicals in photosystem II

Article Abstract:

Vibrational lines to two different species in photosystem II (PSII): the tyrosyl radical, Z., and the plastosemiquinone anion radical, Q(sub A-) is assigned. The data of a positive 1478 cm(super -1) line to a tyrosyl radical vibrational mode and positive 1482 and 1469 cm (super -1) lines to plastosemiquinone anion vibrational modes is supported by the assignment.

Reaction-induced FT-IR spectroscopic studies of biological energy conversion in oxygenic photosynthesis and transport

Article Abstract:

Reaction-induced FT-IR spectroscopy of the photosynthetic and transport proteins, photosystem II, photosystem I, and lactose permease are described. Vibrational bands in spectra acquired from photosystem II, photosystem I and the permease are assigned by a combination of site-directed mutagenesis, isotopic labeling and kinetic techniques.

In vivo, in vitro, and calculated vibrational spectra of plastoquinone and the plastosemiquinone anion radical

Article Abstract:

The application of light-minus-dark Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy to photosystem II is discussed. The difference FT-IR spectrum associated with reduction of Qa in photosystem II has components at 1659, 1482 and 1470 cm-1.
