Kinetics of Langmuir films of fullerene C60

Article Abstract:

The carbon allotrope C60 or Buckminsterfullerene exhibits superconductivity at high temperatures, photoconductivity and other important biological properties. Experiments were conducted to investigate the interaction between Buckminsterfullerene and a water surface using a model. The model was derived using Langevin equations. The rates of interactions in the air-water-C60 system were examined. The short escape time of a single C60 molecule was attributed to its low binding energy. The findings also showed that C60 does not display a stable liquid phase.

Aqueous electrochemistry of a C60-bearing artificial lipid bilayer membrane film immobilized on an electrode surface: thermodynamics for the binding of tetraalkylammonium ion to the fullerene anion

Article Abstract:

A study relating to research on the chemistry and physics of fullerene and fullerene films was conducted to investigate the combination of fullerene chemistry and the chemistry of lipid bilayer membranes. The study describes the results of a quantitative thermodynamic approach to the binding of electrolyte cations, specifically tetraalkylammonium ions, to the electrogenerated radical anion and the dianion of the C60 moieties in a film cast on an electrode surface in aqueous media.

Electrostatic self-assembly of highly-uniform micrometer-thick fullerene films

Article Abstract:

Ultrathin multilayer fullerene films have been fabricated for the first time using the layer-by-layer electrostatic self-assembly monolayer method. The highly homogeneous, transparent, micrometer-thick films were characterized by ultraviolet-vis spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy and ellipsometry. The locally domed surface perturbations as well as the average surface roughness values of the fullerene films for one, two and three bilayers were also determined.
