Nanosphere lithography: surface plasmon resonance spectrum of a periodic array of silver nanoparticles by ultraviolet-visible extinction spectroscopy and electrodynamic modeling

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the optical extinction spectrum of a periodic array of silver nanoparticles prepared by nanosphere lithography. The Digital Instruments Nanoscope III microscope was utilized to obtain atomic force microscopy measurements. Results indicated residual difference between theory and experiment that correlates with shortcomings in the truncated tetrahedron geometry used in determining the shape of the particles.

Plasmon sampled surface enhanced Raman excitation spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The first systematic study of the surface enhanced Raman-scattering (SERS) properties of nanosphere lithography (NSL) derived Ag nanoparticles is presented. The results demonstrate a systematic approach to the optimization of SER spectra on nanoparticle substrates with large interparticle spacings and consequently, weak or no electromagnetic coupling.

Nanosphere lithography: A versatile nanofabrication tool for studies of size-dependent nanoparticle optics

Article Abstract:

The multitude of nanoparticle structural motifs accessible using nanosphere lithography (NSL) is demonstrated. The possible applications of these nanostructures as data storage media, components for future nanoelectronic systems, and substrates for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy are discussed.
