Near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure of DNA nucleobases thin film in the nitrogen and oxygen K-edge region

Article Abstract:

The near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra is measured for evaporated DNA nucleobase films as well as for films of chemically modified bases in the regions around the nitrogen and oxygen K-edges using highly monochromatic synchromatic soft X-rays. The characteristics of NEXAFS spectra reveal the electrical structure of the nucleobases as well as the thermal stability of the self-organized base-stacking structure.

Photophysical study of DNA-bound complexes containing two covalently linked [Ru(2,2'-bipyridine)3](sub 2+)-like centers

Article Abstract:

Luminescence lifetime analysis in the presence and absence of DNA resolves at least two distinct binding modes that exhibit markedly different accessibility to oxygen and dissimilar behavior under physiological salt conditions. Under low loading conditions the linked bimetallic complexes appear to bind very much as the monometallic complex in that they exhibit two types of site on the DNA, each with very different environments.
