Near-infrared absorbance of single-walled carbon nanotubes dispersed in dimethylformamide

Article Abstract:

The absorption spectra of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) dispersed in dimethylformamide (DMF) were recorded in the visible to near-infrared range. On the basis of absorbance measurements for samples that show the sharp absorbance peak but does not contain SWNTs, it concludes that the origin of the peak at 5187 cm(super -1) is not due to semiconducting nanotubes, but due to water present in the SWNT/DMF suspension.

Solvation of carbanions in organic solvents: a test of the polarizable continuum model

Article Abstract:

The solvation of carbanions in the solvents N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) on the basis of experimental and theoretical data is analyzed. The short-range interaction tendencies of the solvents cannot be fully characterized by its dielectric constant is proposed as the main cause for the discrepancy between theory and experiment.

Uniform-diameter single-walled carbon nanotubes catalytically grown in cobalt-incorporated MCM-41

Article Abstract:

Single-walled carbon nanotubes of uniform diameter are grown in cobalt-substituted MCM-41 molecular sieves template. It is proposed that the diameter of the carbon nanotubes grown in MCM-41 catalysts is controlled by the size of the metallic clusters formed in the template.
