Nitric acid purification of single-walled carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

A systematic evaluation of the use of refluxing nitric acid as a purification treatment for electric arc-producing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), by using a combination of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is reported. It is found that thus, nitric acid is suitable for removing the catalyst from SWNT samples, but only at expense of a significant destruction of the SWNTs.

Influence of Ni-Co catalysts composition on nitrogen in carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

Nitrogen-containing carbon nanotubes were obtained by acetonitrile at 850 degree C over catalytic nanoparticles formed by the thermal decomposition of Co and Ni bimaleates or their mutual solutions. A study was conducted on the structure and composition of synthesized samples by electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction (XRD), and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

Comparative study on the electronic structure of arc-discharge and catalytic carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

The study was done on the electronic structure of multiwall nanotubes by using X-ray emission and photoelectron spectroscopy. The study shows that the changes in the X-ray spectra of catalytic carbon nanotubes may result from adjacent pentagon-heptagon pairs and interlayer linkages.
