Oxidation of guanine in G, GG, and GGG sequence contexts by aromatic pyrenyl radical cations and carbonate radical anions: relationship between kinetics and distribution of alkali-labile lesions

Article Abstract:

The sequence dependence of the initial one-electron oxidation of guanine is compared by using the bulky aromatic radical cation of the pyrene derivative, 7,8,9,10-tetrahydroxytetrahydrobenzo[a]pyrene (BPT). The oxidation rates and distributions of oxidized guanine end-products are compared with those produced by [C[O.sub.3].sup..-] radicals.

Reactivity of DNA guanyl radicals with phenolate anions

Article Abstract:

Electron-deficient guanine species are major intermediates produced in DNA by the direct effect of ionizing radiation because of preferential hole migration within DNA to guasine bases. The result emphasizes the potential importance of acidic tyrosine residues and the intimate involvement of protons in DNA repair.

Catalytic mechanism of Guanine deaminase: An ONIOM and molecular dynamics study

Article Abstract:

The multilayered ONIOM method and molecular dynamics simulations are applied to study the catalytic mechanism of Bacillus subtilis guanine deaminase (bGD). The tautomeric state of Guanine is found to be unaffected by the enzyme active site residues.
