Phase and rheological behavior of novel gemini-type surfactant systems

Article Abstract:

The phase behavior of the novel gemini surfactant, disodium 2,3-didodecyl-1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylate (GS), in the presence of water, water/decade, and water/short poly(ox ethylene)nonionic surfactants in a wide range of compositions is described. The GS-water binary system shows a phase behavior typical of ionic surfactant systems, a micellar solution phase and H(sub 1) and R(sub 1) liquid-crystal phases are formed successively with increasing surfactant concentration.

Determination of isotherms for binding of surfactants to vesicles using a surfactant-selective electrode

Article Abstract:

The thermodynamics of surfactant solubilization of vesicles are investigated when perforated vesicles are formed as intermediate structures and then it is compared to the results for surfactants that follow the normal route with coexistence of micelles and vesicles. The results are explained by assuming that a demixing of lipids and surfactants occurs within the perforated membrane.

Phase behavior of cetyltrimethylammonium surfactants with oligo carboxylate counterions mixed with water and decanol: attraction between charged planes or spheres where oligomeric counterions

Article Abstract:

Cetyltrimethylammonium surfactants with a range of oligo carboxylate counteranions are synthesized and the phase behavior of all binary surfactant/water mixtures is examined. The addition of decanol has given rise to a second birefringent phase in equilibrium with the lamellar phase.
