Photoactive blends of poly(para-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) with methanofullerenes from a novel precursor: Photophysics and device performance

Article Abstract:

A novel precursor route is used for synthesizing homogeneous blends of a processable methanofullerene, [6,6]-phenyl C(sub 61)-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), with photoactive blends of poly(para-phenylenevinylene) (PPV). The solubility of the novel precursor polymer in common organic solvents assisted in the production and processing of the composite and the presence of PCBM does not influence the conversion of the precursor polymer to PPV.

Synthesis, photophysical properties, and photovoltaic devices of oligo(p-phenylene vinylene)-fllerene dyads

Article Abstract:

The synthesis of a homologous series of oligo(p-phenylene vinylene)-fulleropyrrolidines (OPVn-C(sub 60, n=1-4, where n is the number of phenyl rings) is explained. Photoexcitation of the dyads in a polar solvent is seen to result in electron transfer for OPV3-C(sub 60) and OPV4-C(sub 60) and to some extent for OPV2-C(sub 60), but not for OPV1_C (sub 60).

Photoelectron spectroscopy to probe the mechanism of electron transfer through oligo(phenylene vinylene) bridges

Article Abstract:

The valence spectra of monolayer of ferrocene oligo(phenylene vinylene) (OPV) methyl thiols deposited on gold were collected using synchrotron radiation. These spectra reveal the relative positions of the gold Fermi level, the highest occupied molecular orbital of ferrocene, and an upper limit for the highest occupied molecular orbital of OPV.
