Photocatalytic dehydrogenation of 2-propanol on TiO2(110)

Article Abstract:

The photocatalytic production of acetone from 2-propanol and O2 was investigated on the TiO2(110) surface using molecular beam techniques. Thermal reaction on the surface was also studied in the absence of light. Findings show that in the absence of light, the probability of producing propene is greater than that for producing acetone, but the total probability of both reactions is less than 0.03. This probability increases to 0.15 if band gap radiation is present on the surface. Full oxidation of the surface reduces the probability to 0.08.

Vanishing of current-doubling effect in photooxidation of 2-propanol on TiO2 in solutions containing Fe(III) ions

Article Abstract:

The current quantum efficiency can reach close to 200 percent (current-doubling effect), when organic compounds such as 2-propanol are in aqueous solutions and are photooxidized on the surface of semiconductor electrodes. However, it is found that the current-doubling effect in the photooxidation of 2-propanol on TiO2 electrodes disappeared in solutions containing Fe(III) ions.

Evidence for structure sensitivity in the thermally activated and photocatalytic dehydrogenation of 2-propanol on TiO2

Article Abstract:

The reaction CH3CHOHCH3 +1/2O2---CH3COCH3 +H2O on (110) and (100) planes of TiO2 using molecular beam techniques is studied. It is suggested that the reaction can proceed through thermally activated and photo catalytic pathways to produce acetone and propene.
