Photochemical generation of polymeric Alkyl-C(sub 60) radicals: ESR detection and identification

Article Abstract:

The various alkylfullerene radical adducts which are generated by ultraviolet-photoinitiated (UV) reactions between low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and carbon(sub 60) (C(sub 60)) in the presence or absence of benzophenone (BP) as a photoinitiator under different conditions is examined using electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. The results indicated that the photoirradiation of LDPE/C(sub 60) with BP as a photoinitiator could lead to the generation of C(sub 60)-bonded LDPE materials.

Evaluation of N-aromatic maleimides as free radical photoinitiators: a photophysical and photopolymerization characterization

Article Abstract:

N-aromatic maleimides were evaluated as free radical photoinitiators and their photophysical and photopolymerization characteristics were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction spectroscopy and laser flash photolysis spectroscopy. Results indicate that twisted 16 N-aromatic maleimides (ARMI) were capable of initiating free radical acrylate polymerization in the presence of a hydrogen atom donor synergist upon direct excitation.

Kinetic probes of the Mechanism of polyoxometalate-Mediated Photocatalytic Oxidation of Chlorinated Organics

Article Abstract:

The development of kinetic probes to determine the possible role of hydroxyl radicals in the polyoxometalate-mediated photocatalytic oxidation of aqueous chlorinated organic compound is studied. The polyoxometalates (POM) photocatalysis has a significant selectivity advantage over other aqueous photo catalytic systems that rely on HO to effect organic oxidation is indicated.
