Photooxidation of organic chemicals catalyzed by nanoscale MoS2

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the use of nanosize MoS2 semiconductors, which are a possible alternative to TiO2, for catalyzing the photooxidation of an organic chemical, phenol. The preparation of MoS2 nanoclusters was performed using an inverse micelle method. Results provide strong evidence that nanoscale MoS2 clusters have the ability to photooxidize organic molecules with visible light which occurs when the nanoclusters are deposited on TiO2 powder and in fully dispersed nanoparticle form.

Catalytic photooxidation of pentachlorophenol using semiconductor nanoclusters

Article Abstract:

Photooxidation of pentachlorophenol (PCP) is reported using a variety of nanosize semiconductor metal oxides and sulfides in both aqueous and polar organic solvents. Photooxidation kinetics of these nanoclusters is compared to widely studied bulk powders such as DegussaP25 TiO2 and CdS.

Photooxidation of carotenoids in mesoporous MCM-41, Ni-MCM-41 and Al-MCM-41 molecular sieves

Article Abstract:

The photooxdation of carotenoids within MCM-41, Ni-MCM-41 and Al-MCM-41 molecular sieves are studied. The result indicates that carotenoids are bound to the MCM-41 pore walls via the ends of the polyene chain in close proximity to the C9,9'-C3 groups.
