Article Abstract:

Precision agriculture experts have discussed the effectiveness of site- specific farming practices at the Western Precision Agriculture Conference held in Feb 2000 in Pasco, WA. They agreed that site-specific farming has failed to live up to lofty expectations. It may have increased yield and crop quality but its adoption has resulted in additional production costs arising from expensive equipment and labor.

Farmers are given tips on how to review their planting plans for the 2000 season. They are reminded that early planting, conservation, tillage, and adequate weed, disease and insect control measures help keep the crop growing at peak performaance and improve water use efficiency. Farmers should also remember to put adequate potassium in their fields for healthy plant water relations.
