Article Abstract:

The results of density functional theory (DFT) studies on the formation of the complex [H.sup.1-]-[Cu.sup.2+]-[H.sup.1-] consisting of two deprotonated hydroxypyridone ligands ([H.sup.1-]) and a [Cu.sup.2+] ion are reported. The resulting electronic energy bands have indicated that the helix is an insulating one-dimensional ferromagnet.

Assisted adiabatic passage revisited

Article Abstract:

The various aspects and extensions of assisted adiabatic passage, a population transfer method that is designed to generate adiabatic population transfer under unfavorable conditions, are presented. The sensitivity of this method to the pulse parameters and to Gaussian stochastic phase fluctuations between the fields is investigated.
