Preparation, microscopy, and flow cytometry with excitation into surface plasmon resonance bands of gold or silver nanoparticles on aminodextran-coated polystyrene beads

Article Abstract:

Spherical polystyrene latex beads of about 2.0 omega m diameters are coated with islands of silver and gold metal about 5-200nm in diameter, by reducing aqueous silver or gold ions in the presence of sugar-coated polystyrene latex beads. The origin of the wavelength dependent, light scattering amplification observed by flow cytometry is identified with excitation into surface plasmon resonance bands of gold and silver nanoparticles on polystyrene latex beads.

Photoinduced electron transfer between polystyrene and 2,4,6-triphenylpyrilium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)gallate in solutions and in polymer films

Article Abstract:

The photoinduced electron transfer between polystyrene and 2,4,6-triphenylpyrilium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)gallate (TPPGa) was studied in dichloromethane solutions and poly(vinylchloride) film by steady state and time resolved fluorescence quenching techniques. The forward and back electron transfer was found to be the possible pathway for stabilization of TPPGa in polystyrene because 100% of TPPGa could be recovered even after prolonged irradiation.

Hofmeister effects in the stability and electrophoretic mobility of polystyrene latex particles

Article Abstract:

The colloidal stability and electrophoretic mobility of three different polystyrene latex samples were analyzed in the presence of different electrolytes. The effects on their colloidal stability and electrokinetic behavior provoked by four anions and three cations located in different positions in the Hofmeister series were shown.
