Preparation of titanium oxide photocatalysts anchored on porous silica glass by a metal ion-implantation method and their photocatalytic reactivities for the degradation of 2-propanol diluted in water

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the preparation of titanium oxide photocatalysts anchored on porous silica glass by a metal ion-implantation method and their photocatalytic reactivities for the degradation of 2-propanol diluted in water. Results demonstrate that the titanium ions implanted in the porous silica glass are present on the surface layer as isolated tetrahedral titanium oxide moieties by diffuse reflectance absorption, XAFS, XPS and SIMS analyses. Findings also show that metal ion implantation is effective in preparing highly efficient photocatalysts on glass plates.

Effects of metal particle size in gas-phase hydrogenation of acetonitrile over silica-supported platinum catalysts

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the gas-phase hydrogenation of acetonitrile with silica-supported platinum catalysts, with emphasis on the effects of metal dispersion. A silica gel was utilized as the starting support material. The silicate-supported platinum catalysts were then made using wet impregnation by immersing the calcined silica gel in an aqueous solution of chloroplatinic acid. Experimental results indicated that the gas-phase hydrogenation of acetonitrile over silica-supported platinum catalysts was sensitive to the level of platinum dispersion.
