Quantum chemical calculations of the electronic states and fluorescence properties of carbazolyl- and carbazolylmethylene-substituted diacetylenes

Article Abstract:

Different fluorescence behaviors were exhibited by the carbazolyldiacetylenes depending on how the carbazolyl (Cz) moiety was connected to the diacetylenic backbone. Fluorescence properties were observed which were closely related to those of the fluorescent Cz group when Cz was attached to the backbone through one or more CH2 spacers. When Cz was directly attached to the backbone, almost no fluorescence was observed. The phenomena were then studied quantum chemically to provide an explanation for the observations.

Intramolecular resonance dipole-dipole interactions in a profluorescent protease substrate

Article Abstract:

A study examined the dipole-dipole interactions between two fluorophores within the same molecule. This investigation involved the synthesis of three heterobichromophoric and three homobichromophoric NorFES derivates and the measurement of the spectral characteristics of bichromophoric peptides before and after the separation of the dyes. The monomeric components could not be accounted for the observed spectral properties. Instead, these features were the novel optical qualities of each ground-state dimer.

Spectroscopic properties of 2'-(or-3')-O-(2,4,6,-trinitrophenyl) adenosine 5'-triphosphate revealed by time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to understand the origins of the change in fluorescence intensity of the ribose-modified fluorescent nucleotide analogue 2'-(or-3')-O-(2,4,6,-trinitrophenyl) adenosine 5'-triphosphate in different environments. A time resolved fluorescence measurement was used because of its capacity to monitor the transient nature of fluorescence properties. Experimental methodology and results are discussed.
