Raman and ab initio studies of simple and binary 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium ionic liquids

Article Abstract:

Raman spectra of the ionic liquids, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([C4mim] [PF6]), 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([C6mim]Cl), and 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([C4mim] [PF6]), and binary mixtures thereof, are assigned using ab initio MP2 calculations. The vibrational analysis of the binary system reveal that the changes in hydrogen bonding to the ring hydrogen atoms do not have any detectable effect on the 50:50 distribution of the two conformers.

A multifunctional arithmetical processor model integrated inside a single molecule

Article Abstract:

The spectral properties of 2-phenylimidazo[4,5-f][1,10]-phenanthroline (PIPH) in the acid and base condition are investigated by fluorescence and ultraviolet (UV)-vis spectrometry. The results have indicated that PIPH could exist in four ionization forms of dication, cation, neutral and anion and three of them have distinct emission and absorption properties.

Why are viscosities lower for ionic liquids with -CH2Si(CH3)3 vs - CH2C(CH3)3 substitution on the imidazolium cations?

Article Abstract:

The synthesis and properties of the first of a new class of silicon-substituted imidazolium cations room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) was reported. The viscosities of the imidazolium cations RTILs were reduced substantially by replacing a neopentyl group with the analogous trimethylsilylmethyl group.
