Relaxation processes in room temperature ionic liquids: The case of 1-butyl-3 methyl imidazolium hexafluorophosphate

Article Abstract:

A study on the nature of the relaxation processes occurring in a typical room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) namely, 1-butyl-3methyl imidazolium hexafluorophosphate was investigated. The results of the study provide novel information that would be useful in rationalizing the observed structural and dynamical behavior of RTILs in the amorphous state.

Liquid structure of the ionic liquid 1,3-dimethylimidazolium bis{(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl}amide

Article Abstract:

Neutron diffraction was used to determine the liquid structure of 1,3-dimethylimidazolium bis{(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl}amide {[dmim](NT[f.sub.2])}. The liquid structure of 1,3-dimethylimidazolium bis{(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl}amide shows a decreasing affinity for hydrogen bonding with the cation as a function of both charge density and anion size.

Structure of ionic liquid-benzene mixtures

Article Abstract:

Neutron diffraction is used in a study to investigate the structure of liquid mixtures of 1,3-dimethylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate with benzene. Results show that the presence of benzene significantly alters the ionic liquid structure, in particular, in the cation-cation interactions.
