Reply to "comment on 'Interfacial pH of an isolated silica-water interface"

Article Abstract:

The interpretations of the measurement of interfacial pH by monitoring the optical absorbance change of a pH-sensitive probe molecule tethered to the silica-water interface are reported. The absorption response of a molecular probe compares favorably with the result and a complete understanding of the optical response of the tethered indicator reveals some unique observations of the structure of the inner Helmholtz plane.

Biofilm effects on the peroxidase-oxidase reaction

Article Abstract:

The kinetics of the peroxidase-oxidase oscillatory reaction in pH 5.1 acetate buffer, biofilms forming in less than 48 h on the quartz reactor surface is experimented. The nominally homogeneous peroxidase system shows dynamical changes in response to this biofilm growth, partially explaining subtle differences among dynamics observed over time and between laboratories.

Canonical variational transition-state theory study of the C[F.sub.3]C[H.sub.2]C[H.sub.3] + OH reaction

Article Abstract:

The small curvature method is used for calculating the variational transition-state theory constants with multidimensional tunneling contributions for the C[F.sub.3]C[H.sub.2]C[H.sub.3] + OH reaction. The reliability of the structure activity relationship that is used for estimating the rate constant values for OH reactions with hydrofluorocarbons is discussed.
