Role of the adsorption phenomenon on the ionic equilibrium distribution and on the transient effects in electrolytic cells

Article Abstract:

The influence of the adsorption of ions at the interfaces on the transient phenomena occurring in an electrolytic cell submitted to a steplike external voltage was analyzed. An analytical solution for the bulk and surface densities of ions and for the electrical potential is obtained where the equation of the problem can be linearized and the relaxation time for the transient phenomena can also be obtained.

Specific ion adsorption and surface forces in colloid science

Article Abstract:

Parametrized ionic potentials obtained from nonprimitive model molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and are used in a generalized Poisson-Boltzmann equation. The analysis of ion distributions and double layer forces has shown that there is a strong ion specific double layer force set up due to unequal ion specific short-range potentials acting between ions and surfaces.

A model for selective ion adsorption including van der Waals interaction

Article Abstract:

A model is described in the framework of the Poisson-Boltzmann theory for the selective adsorption phenomenon in an isotropic liquid accounting for a van der Waals interaction between the ions and the surface. The basic equations governing the electric field distribution are solved for low and high potential regimes.
