Self-aggregation of amphiphilic cationic polyelectrolytes based on polysaccharides

Article Abstract:

The self-aggregation of polyelectrolytes having N-alkyl-N,N-dimethyl-N-(2-hydroxypropyl)ammonium chloride pendant groups randomly distributed along a polysaccharide backbone was studied by steady-state fluorescence techniques. Fluorescence experiments with pyrene-labeled polymers and viscosity data suggest that intramolecular hydrophobic associations mainly form micro domains.

Swelling behavior of covalently cross-linked gellan gels

Article Abstract:

The equilibrium swelling behaviors of covalently cross-linked gellan gels are investigated as a function of electrolyte concentration, pH at various ionic strengths. The numerical analysis of the Flory theory applied to the swelling of gels shows that the ionic contribution to swelling is the main factor determining the degree of swelling of gels.

Polysaccharide charge density regulating protein adsorption to air/water interfaces by protein/polysaccharide complex formation

Article Abstract:

The effect of polysaccharide charge density on protein/polysaccharide complexation in solution is studied to understand the effect of polysaccharide charge density on complex adsorption of the air/water interface. It is observed that polysaccharide charge density is a major determinant in the solubility of the protein/polysaccharide complexes.
