Solvation of ions in hydrophilic layer of polyoxyethylated nonionic micelle, cooperative approach by electrophoresis and ion-transfer voltammetry

Article Abstract:

Ion transfer voltammetric measurements at microinterfaces between notrobenzene and aqueous tetraethyleneglycol solution, which acts as a model for the palisade layer of the micelles, are performed to determine the solvation energies of single ions in the hydrophilic layer of the micelles. The results allow determining the Gibbs free energy of transfer of a single ion without an extrathermodynamic assumption.

Hydration structures of bromides on cationic micelles

Article Abstract:

The results from X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) study of aqueous dodecltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HTAB) micelles are presented. The findings reveal at least two types of bromides on the cationic micelles, completely hydrated bromides and direct ion-associated with the micellar head groups.

X-ray absorption fine structure of ions attracted by a Zwitterionic surface monolayer

Article Abstract:

The X-ray absorption fine structure helps in probing the solvation structures of ions. The surface structures and amounts of ions accumulated by a N-dodecyl-N,N-dimethyl-ammonio-butane-sulfonate (DDABS) surface monolayer are studied with total-reflection total-conversion helium ion yield X-ray absorption fine structure (TRTCY-XAFS).
