Surface chemistry and extreme-pressure lubricant properties of dimethyl disulfide

Article Abstract:

The surface chemistry and lubricant properties of dimethyl disulfate was examined by using a microbalance to measure the growth kinetics of a film generated by the thermal decomposition of dimethyl disulfate on an iron foil. The growth rate was found to become linear with decreasing reaction temperature and/or reactant pressure. The resulting film was found to form a surface thiolate species that reacts to form FeS. Results also showed that dimethyl disulfate acts as an antiseizure extreme-pressure additive.

Chemistry of 3-hexyne on Ru(0001): a reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy study

Article Abstract:

The reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy was used to investigate the chemistry of 3-hexyne that has been adsorbed on Ru(0001) at various temperatures under ultrahigh vacuum. Results showed that 3-hexyne is adsorbed as a di-sigma/pi complex at 100 K for very low exposures. The complex was found to start decomposing at 143 K, leaving an adsorbed acetylenic di-sigma/pi surface complex. New products were also generated at other temperatures.

Comparative surface studies of high-Zn-level and commercial Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the surfaces of high-Zn-level and commercial Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts. The coprecipitation technique was utilized to make two types of Cu/Zn/Al catalysts. The VG ESCALAB MkII was utilized to carry out the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements. Experimental results indicated that the catalyst supported an increment in methanol yield and better performance under conditions similar to industrial processes.
