Surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering spectroscopy of plant photosystem II reaction centers excited on the red edge of the Qy band

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze vibrational spectra of the higher plant D1-D2cytochrome b559 photosystem II reaction center complex by exciting into the red-edge of the Qy transitions of chlorophyll and pheophytin bound within the protein complex. The reaction center complex was isolated from spinach photosystem II-enriched membranes . Experimental results indicated the importance of vibrational spectra excited directly in resonance with the Qy band on understanding the dynamics associated with photosynthesis.

Flash-induced blocking of the high-affinity manganese-binding site in photosystem II by iron cations: Dependence on the dark interval flashes and binary oscillations of fluorescence yield

Article Abstract:

The dependence of the blocking yield is studied as a function of the time interval ([DELTA]t) between flashes and is found that the yield decreased with decreasing [DELTA]t. Result shows that in single-turnover pretreatment flash experiments, the Fe-blocking process requires a dark interval between flashes as is the case for the process of photoactivation. This observation indicates the necessity for an equilibrium or rearrangement between flashes and light-dependent iron binuclear center formation.

Photoinduced electrochemical reduction of nitrite at an electrochemically roughened silver surface

Article Abstract:

The photoelectrochemical reduction of nitrite and nitrate on the surface of electrochemically roughened silver electrode was enhanced by the excitation of surface-plasmon resonances on this surface. The photoinduced electroreduction occurred via photoemission of electrons from the metal followed by the capture of these electrons by electron acceptors. One of the products in this reaction was Ammonia.
