Surfactant adsorption at solid-aqueous interfaces containing fixed charges: Experiments revealing the role of surface charge density and surface charge regulation

Article Abstract:

The fabrication of solid-aqueous interfaces with a controlled and fixed density of surface charges that are covalently bound to the solid, and the adsorption of the surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is discussed. Results show that when the surface charge is homogeneously distributed, fixed and the surfactant is almost the only counterion available, homogeneous distribution of the surfactant across the surface is at a lower energy than an inhomogeneous distribution.

Enhanced fluorescence of epicocconone in surfactant assemblies as a consequence of depth-dependent microviscosity

Article Abstract:

A combination of fluorescence spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations is used to study the extent of fluorescence enhancement of an epicocconone in different surfactant assemblies, which are found to be very different from each other. The analysis reveals that the depth-dependent microviscosity highly affects the fluorescence quantum that further proves the involvement of fluorophore as a dual emitting marker for fluorescence microscopy.

Observations of the effect of anionic, cationic, neutral, and zwitterionic surfactants on the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction

Article Abstract:

The study is related to the effects of various surfactants on the oscillations of the ferroin-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. The results suggest that the evolution of oscillation is most regular in the presence of micelles of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS).
