Temperature and light-induced structural changes in photosynthetic reaction center proteins probed by X-ray absorption fine structure

Article Abstract:

Structures of the Fe(super 2+) binding site in photosynthetic reaction center (RC) proteins from rhodabacter sphaeroides R26 were obtained with the help of Fe K-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy. The measurements for high-precision Fe site local structure indicated that XAFS was useful for probing structural changes in the metal site environment due to temperature change, metal replacement, and light-induced charge separation in the reaction center proteins.

Tetraalkylphosphonium polyoxometalate ionic liquids: Novel, organic-inorganic hybrid materials

Article Abstract:

The preparation of novel specie of ionic liquids (IL) by combining Keggin or Lindqvist polyoxometalate (POM) anion with a suitable tetraalkylphosphonium cation is presented. The voltammetry, viscometry, conductimetry, and thermal analysis are done to understand the description of an ambient temperature ' liquid POM' involving the Lindqvist salt of trihexyl (tetradecyl) phosphonium cation.

Magnetic field-induced ordering of a polymer-grafted biomembrane-mimetic hydrogel

Article Abstract:

It has been demonstrated that a polymer-grafted biomembrane-mimetic hydrogel is macroscopically oriented by application of a moderate magnetic field. The field-induced anisotropy of the gel phase continues even following removal from the field.
