The main phase transition of mica-supported phosphatidylcholine membranes

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to study the phase behavior of mica-supported bilayers with a differential scanning calorimeter, owing to a significant increase of the substrate area resulting from chopping a piece of mica into a large number of microscopic chips. It is found that supported bilayers have the essential feature of free-standing lipid bilayers.

Shape evolution of lipid bilayer patches adsorbed on mica: An atomic force microscopy study

Article Abstract:

The lateral rearrangements of supported bilayer patches are monitored immediately after their formation through vesicle rupture. A planar supported lipid bilayers (PSB) retains many of the properties of free membranes, such as line tension, but the interaction with the substrate can dramatically change the time scale of fundamental processes.

New evidence for TiO2 photocatalysts during bilayer lipid peroxidation

Article Abstract:

The photocatalytic peroxidation of the bovine brain L-alpha-phosphatidyl-ethanolamine (PE) vesicle was measured and used a model for phospholipid peroxidation. A homogeneous chain radical peroxidation of PE occurred in aqueous solution by a radical chain mechanism.
