The physicochemical origins of coincident epitaxy in molecular overlayers: lattice modeling vs potential energy calculations

Article Abstract:

Calculations of optimum overlayer-substrate configurations were performed using potential energy methods and a simple geometric lattice misfit modeling algorithm to determine the physicochemical origins of epitaxial stabilization of coincident molecular overlayers. The samples studied are beta-bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene triiodide, perylenetetracarboxylic diimide and perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride overlayers on a graphite substrate. Results showed, at least for van der Waals overlayers, that overlayer orientations are influenced more by the phase relationship between the overlayer and the substrate than by specific molecule-substrate interactions.

Independent geometrical and electrochemical characterization of arrays of nanometer-scale electrodes

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the geometrical and electrochemical characterization of arrays of nanometer-scale electrodes determined by cyanide-etching of hexadecanethiol monolayers restrained to copper-underpotential deposition-modified Au(111). Results indicated the reliability of the cyanide etching of n-alkanethiol monolayers bound to Cu-underpotential deposition-modified Au(111) for the fabrication of nanoelectrode arrays.
