The surface chemistry of propylene, 1-iodopropane, and 1,3-diiodopropane on MoAl alloy thin films formed on dehydroxylated alumina

Article Abstract:

The adsorption of [C.sub.3] hydrocarbons propylene, 1-iodopropane, and 1,3-diiodopropane is studied in ultrahigh vacuum on a molybdenum-aluminium alloy formed by molybdenum hexacarbonyl reaction with a planar alumina film growth on a Mo(100) substrate. It is found that carbon-iodine bond scission occurs below ~200 K to deposit iodine and form propyl species from 1-iodopropane and a C3 metallacycle from 1,3-diiodopropane.

The chemistry of CH(sub 2)I(sub 2) on MoAl alloy thin films formed on dehydroxylated alumina: Insights into methylene insertion reactions

Article Abstract:

The chemistry of diiodomethane is explored in ultrahigh vacuum on a MoAl alloy film grown on planar, dehydroxylated alumina by reaction with molybdenum hexacarbonyl. Diiodomethane reacts to form methylene species and adsorbed iodine below ~250 K on a MoAl alloy formed from Mo(CO)(sub 6) on dehydroxylated alumina.

Self-assembly of alkanethiol monolayers on Ag-Au(111) alloy surfaces

Article Abstract:

The self-assembly of ethanethiol (C2) and 1-octanethiol (C8) on Ag-Au(111) alloy films is studied. Results reveal that the thiolate packing density at saturation increased approximately linearly with increasing Ag ratio.
