Calorimetic study of the micellization of alkylpyridinium and alkyltrimethylammonium bromides in water

Article Abstract:

An investigation of the thermodynamic parameters of micellization of N-undecyl-, N-tridecyl-, N-tetradecyl-, and N-pentadecylpyridinium bromides and tetradecyl- and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromides in salt-free aqueous solutions at 25 degrees C is presented.

Thermodynamics of binding of (R)- and (S)-dinitrobenzoyl leucine to cinchona alkaloids and their tert-butylcarbamate derivatives in methanol: Evaluation of enantioselectivity by spectroscopic (CD, UV) and microcalorimetric (ITC) titrations

Article Abstract:

Enantiomers of N-3,5-dinitrobenzyl-leucine (DNB-Leu) and nonchiral N-3,5-dinitrobenzoyl-glycine (DNB-Gly), denoted as selectands (SAs) to the chiral selectors (SOs), quinine (QN), quinidine (QD) and their derivatives O9-tert-butylcarbamoyl quinine (t-BuCQN) and O9-tert-butylcarbamoyl quinidine (t-BuCQD) are investigated and subjected to quantify binding using isothermal calometric titrations (ITC), circular dichroism (CD), and ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy.

Energetics in correlation with structural features: The case of micellization

Article Abstract:

The first complete thermodynamic study of micellization in which the observed thermodynamic quantities of micellization are discussed in terms of various contributions arising from the solute- solute, solute-solvent, and solvent-solvent interactions and correlated to the measured micellar structural features is presented. The approach is relatively simple, but has a shortcoming of involving at least one unmeasurable component that must be derived by means of some theoretical model.
