US/FRANCE: STEDIM TO OPEN UNIT IN THE US

Stedim, which already has a United States subsidiary, already plans to open another unit in the United States. The company which produces single-use sterile plastic pouches for biotechnology companies and pharmaceutical laboratories, and which is located at Aubagne in the Bouches-de-Rhone department, is investing EUR 3.8mn in a new building.

In France, the Paul Hartmann company made a 1999 turnover of FFr 1.1bn, up 10% from 1998, with a workforce of 700 employees. The company, which is headed by Jean-Paul Brunstein, posted net profitability of 3%. It has plants at Saint-Marie-aux-Mines, Chatenois, and Liepvre. The company plans to hire an additional 20 people in 2000.
