Ultrathin TiO(sub x) films on Pt(111): A LEED, XPS, and STM investigation

Article Abstract:

Ultrathin ordered titanium oxide films on Pt(111) surface are prepared by reactive evaporation of Ti in oxygen and by varying Ti dose and the annealing conditions six different long-range ordered phases are obtained which are characterized by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Similar and distinct features are observed in the TiO(sub x)/Pt(111) case, which may be related to the different chemical natures of the overlayer of the substrate.

Gold-catalyzed low-temperature growth of cadmium oxide nanowires by vapor transport

Article Abstract:

Ultralong cadmium oxide (CdO) nanowires are synthesized in high-yield on gold-coated silicon substrate at a relatively low temperature of 400 degree C by using a simple vapor transport method. CdO nanowires with unique side-growth morphology are produced in a confined region of a substrate and the crystal structures of the nanowires are analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and electron microscopy.

Combined application of LEED and STM in surface crystallography

Article Abstract:

A demonstration of the power of the combined application of quantitative low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and scanning tunneling microscopic (STM) is presented for several examples. The study viewed that STM image in most cases provides the key to the applicable structural model type.
