Unfolding of G-quadruplexes: Energetic, and ion and water contributions of G-quartet stacking

Article Abstract:

The unfolding G-quadruplexes in the DNA are investigated using a combination of spectroscopic and differential scanning calorimetric techniques and in the presence of [K.sup.+]. The results indicate that the incorporation of loops and base overhangs stabilizes quadruplex structures and that this stabilization is enthalpy driven and due to base stacking contributions.

A thermodynamic characterization of the interactions of a cationic copolymer with DNA

Article Abstract:

The interaction of a cationic graft copolymer, poly(ethylene oxide)-g-poly(ethylene oxide)-b-polyethylenimine (PEO-g-PEI) with a synthetic DNA-poly[d(AT)].poly[d(AT)] is examined. This results in the spontaneous formation of ion pairs between ionized amino groups of PEI segment of the copolymer and phosphate groups of DNA.
