Activation and reaction volumes in solution

Article Abstract:

The third review of activation and reaction volumes of chemical reactions in solution is presented. This installment has a 10-year timeframe stretching from Jan 1987 to Dec 1996 although data from 1997 were also included. This review is an improvement over the earlier ones because of advances in the theoretical treatment and interpretation of experimental volume data, and the use of high-pressure techniques to biochemical reactions and supercritical-fluid reactions. The review is divided into inorganic reactions and organic reactions.

Organic chemical reactions in supercritical water

Article Abstract:

Several studies have been carried out to examine organic chemical reactions in supercritical water. Experimental results have significantly advanced scientists' understanding of supercritical water oxidation. Findings also showed a broad range of chemical transformations that can be influenced in the nonconventional reaction medium of supercritical water. In addition, the studies have demonstrated that the rates and selectivities of different reactions can be altered by temperature, catalysts, water density and pH.
