DNA repair in plants

Article Abstract:

Plants are damaged by the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cells by ultraviolet irradiation in sunlight, biotic stress and secondary metabolism, due to which DNA are oxidized and are susceptible to oxidative modifications. Homologues of CSB (Cockayne syndrome, type B), RPA (replication protein A) and FEN-1 (Flap endonuclease-1) are plant DNA repair -related genes that are involved in nucleotide and base excision repairs, mismatch repair and double-strand break repair.

Roles of DNA polymerase V and RecA protein in SOS damage-induced mutation

Article Abstract:

RecA protein is a polypeptide, essential for excision repair and recombinational DNA repair. It is a required cofactor for the stimulation of DNA polymerase V (POL V) activity, and interacts with Pol V in two modes, in the absence and the presence of DNA, for repair mechanisms in SOS damage-induced mutation.
