Dynamics of excited molecules: predissociation

Article Abstract:

Molecules undergo predissociation when they are excited to a discrete level. The predissociation of molecules are classified by the location and shape of the potential curves. The mechanisms of predissociation include nonadiabatic, electron-rotation, spin-orbit, or hyperfine interactions or interaction by external fields. The experimental methods for detecting predissociation are high-resolution, time-resolved, and photofragment spectroscopy. The predissociation of different diatomic and polyatomic molecules are given.
