Generation, characterization, and transformations of unsaturated carbenium ions in zeolites

Article Abstract:

The existence of carbocations in acid-catalyzed reactions may be proven by the presence of characteristic group frequencies for infrared radiation and chromophoric groups for ultraviolet-vis absorption. The processes that govern hydrocarbon transformations are mediated by zeolites, crystalline-alumino-hydro-silicates that feature pores of molecular dimensions. These compounds are highly acidic and are typically characterized by relatively weak complexation energies, varying photon transfer energies and steric constraints.

Reactivity theory of zeolite bronsted acidic sites

Article Abstract:

An elaborate molecular comprehension of the mechanism of Bronsted acid-catalyzed reactions has yielded new insights into the reactivity of the carbocations that serve as possible intermediates. Major concerns in the theory of catalysis as they apply to Zeolitic Bronsted acidic sites, including lattice stability, proton affinity, hydrogen bonding and intermediate versus transition state formation are discussed in detail.
