Multidimensional femtosecond correlation spectroscopies of electronic and vibrational excitations

Article Abstract:

Complex molecular assemblies such as proteins and liquids containing hydrogen bonds are best analyzed for structural, electronic, and vibrational dynamics employing femtosecond multiple-pulse nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. The review discusses the usefulness of the multidimensional spectroscopies, in combination with computational capabilities, in providing vibrational and electronic motions and interactions in molecular structures.

New technologies in electron spin resonance

Article Abstract:

The review documents new developments in electron spin resonance (ESR) instrumentation and techniques. Discussion on the two-dimensional Fourier tansform ESR for determining molecular dynamics in complex fluids, pulsed ESR for large intramolecular distances, and ESR technique extension to high magnetic fields for optical measurement of molecular motions is presented.

Effects of high pressure on molecules

Article Abstract:

Under high pressure conditions of the order of multimegabar range, molecules undergo drastic changes with respect to bonding patterns, phase transitions, vibrational dynamics, and quantum effects. The review cites examples from heteronuclear species, hydrogen-bonded systems, and complex molecules to document the effects of high pressure on molecules.
