Reactivity of penta- and hexacoordinate silicon compounds and their role as reaction intermediates

Article Abstract:

The chemical reactivity, the interconversion with respect to the applications in organic synthesis and the reagent-properties of penta- and hexacoordinated sillicon compounds are discussed. The preparation of hypervalent compounds of silicon is also described. It is shown that pentacoordinate silicon compounds are more reactive tha tetracoordinate ones and has a unique pattern of reactivity. The reactivity of hexacoordinate silicon compounds is observed to be different and unpredictable.

N-Halogenoimido complexes of transition metals

Article Abstract:

N-Halogenoimido complexes of the transition metals have an MNX structural element, a short-metal nitrogen bond, a relatively short nitrogen-halogen bond and a large bond ancle MNX. Such complexes can be synthesized from any of the following - vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten, rhenium and osmium. The vibrational spectrum of the complexes is greatly influenced by bond angle of the atom and is active in the IR and the Raman spectra.

Uses of silicon-containing compounds in the synthesis of natural products

Article Abstract:

The use of organosilicon compounds, particularly allyl-, propargyl-, and vinylsilanes, in the synthesis of natural products is discussed. The compounds under discussion are so-called terminators, highly nucleophilic pi-systems, and they are stable toward a variety of reagents and a majority of the common functional group manipulations. The compounds can be activated, however, by electrophiles generated by adding a Lewis acid.
