Structures of the common cyclodextrins and their larger analogues - beyond the doughnut

Article Abstract:

Advances in the study of the structures of the doughnut-shaped cyclic oligosaccharides called cyclodextrins are reviewed. Findings on the structural characteristics of cyclodextrin molecules include the view that the glucose is a rigid unit, the torsion angle index and the steadiness of the glucosyl torsion angles phi and psi. The crystal structures are either channels or cages. Cycloamyloses were also observed to have may O-H...O and C-H...O hydrogen bonds.

Synthesis and biological activity of natural aminocyclopentitol glycosidase inhibitors: mannostatins, trehazolin, allosamidins, and their analogues

Article Abstract:

The chemical syntheses of mannostatins, trehazolin and allosamidins were studied. The synthesis of aminocyuclopentitols in relation to natural products was also taken into account by the study. The biological activity of the three compounds and their analogues was studied in reference to their inhibition of glycosidades. The results showed that mannostatins selectively and potently inhibit mannosidases while trehazolin inhibits trehalases.
