Memo: Tough Competition

Article Abstract:

IBM has twenty-five per cent of the personal computer market and may have fifty per cent by 1985. AT&T is expected to take a large percentage when it enters the microcomputer market. The third member of the triumverate that is expected to control the market in the next ten years, according to Robert Glidden of Perfect Software Inc., is the Japanese PC industry. These three can provide the elements of integration and standardization that are needed.

Memo: 'A Fishbowl.'

Article Abstract:

Ninety per cent of the managers contacted for a survey agreed that their most stressful activity is the firing of an employee. Andrew Sherwood of the Goodrich and Sherwood Company offers advice. In effect, the termination should be done quickly by telling the employee early in the interview and by offering a simple explanation. An out-placement specialist can be effective in handling this task.
