Cutting Mailroom Costs

Article Abstract:

Escalating volume and costs of mail preparation have resulted in companies finding more efficient and cost-saving ways of handling postal volume. One company used a Pitney Bowes electronic scale that helped to save $100,000 a year by choosing the most economical means of shipping to any country. An electronic accounting system from Pitney Bowes helped reduce costs by providing accurate accounting of postage totals of each department. Another Pitney Bowes system weighs and applies postage for mailing by Postal Service or UPS for a company that produces navigation charts, significantly reducing costs. A photograph shows electronic accounting equipment interfaced with Pitney Bowes mailing equipment.

Word Processing Plays Host to the Mailroom

Article Abstract:

Pioneer Western Corp. (PWC) has developed a system for its mailroom which takes advantage of PWC's existing computer system consisting of mainframe, word processing network, and 2780-3780 batch processing. By adding a terminal, printer, envelope feeder, and customized Mailroom Application for Requesting Listed Addresses (MARLA) software, PWC was able to create a records database with the word processing system. Records can be selected for labels and forms or merged with letters. Other users in the company are able to access the database. MARLA also supports an employee records file.
