Designed with Employees in Mind

Article Abstract:

First place in the 1983 'Office of the Year' award goes to the Erie Insurance Group. Its twenty-four million dollar building is the hub of a fifteen-acre project designed by The Stubbins Associates. Erie's concern for employees is seen in the 400-seat cafeteria, eight lounges, and huge atrium. Carrier units provide energy-efficient heating and cooling, monitored by a Johnson Control 85-40 Building Automation System that also provides a security system. An IBM 5520 system supports eleven terminals and a 5519 printer for word processing. Data processing is provided by three IBM 4341 Model 2s, and graphics by a Compugraphics MCS 80.
