Digital Renaissance T.A.G. and Ephyx V-Active

Article Abstract:

Digital Renaissance's Temporal Annotation Generator (T.A.G.) and Ephyx Technologies' V-Active interactive Web video tools simplify streaming multimedia design by integrating video, audio, still pictures and hyperlinks. T.A.G. supports several input file formats and is reasonably priced at $150 for the editor and $500 for server options including database interfaces. T.A.G. facilitates simple project executions and easily defines hotspots with flashing white rectangles. V-Active, a $695 hotspot creation tool, enables users to add hyperlinks to AVI, QuickTime and MPEG files. V-Active's image-tracking technology is unique and automatically follows hotspots as they migrate around frames. While both products are good multimedia authoring applications for creating hotspots and linking video to multimedia and Web documents, T.A.G. offers wider input ranges of formats and playback environments. V-Active, however, is the superior choice for hotspot display, automatic tracking and Director Xtra support.

Window. Open Sesame

Article Abstract:

Netscape Communications' JavaScript scripting language can be used to provide Web users with a unique experience, such as floating control bars or pop-up windows. The easy-to-use and powerful language can be written into HTML using a simple text editor. American Cybercast used JavaScript to add multimedia components to its on-line space opera. The JavaScript program allows users to obtain more detailed versions of images by clicking on a button. The JavaScript program resides in a tag within the Head tag of an HTML document. Browsers that do not support JavaScript will ignore these tags. HotWired uses a JavaScript program to generate a control palette that connects users to central parts of their Web site.
