Increased Portability Is the Goal for Personal, Pocketable Computers

Article Abstract:

The pocket computer is finding new uses, such as monitoring diets in this era of health consciousness. Sharp's 1252 and CE-125 printers were designed with these types of applications in mind. Sharp's first pocket computer was the PC-1211, introduced in 1980. In 1982, Sharp strengthened its product line with the PC-1500 and PC 1251 pocket computers. The most recent product is the PC-1350, with a four-line twenty-five character LED display. Up to five minutes per operation can be saved using a pocket computer as opposed to a calculator, for such things as figuring banking interest, yields and other banking applications. Pocket computers offer cost, simplicity and size advantages. Photographs of the Sharp PC-1261 and PC-1350 are shown. Also included are a graph of pocket computer sales from 1980 through 1995, a diagram showing the development of pocket computers, and a table giving products, their prices, and features.
