Job Sharing--A Concept Whose Time Has Come

Article Abstract:

Job sharing is a system in which two employees perform the functions formerly assigned to one single position. The concept is innovative and has many potential benefits including flexibility in scheduling, reduction of turnover and absenteeism, recruitment from a broader labor pool, and continuity of job performance. Productivity of the system may be measured through periodic performance reviews and a comparison of performance against goals and objectives set forth in the planning process. The essential process of planning job-sharing systems is described. A comprehensive checklist of steps to be taken is included.
