Article Abstract:

Franklin Electronic Publishing's REX credit-card sized PDA can fit into a shirt pocket as well as connect to a portable computer. The product comes in two versions: the $129.95 REX-1, which can hold 750 items, and the $149.95 REX-3, which can hold 3,000 addresses, names, memos, to-do items and appointments. The product features built-in links to Lotus Organizer, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Schedule+ and Symantec's ACT. Additional links to other commercial PIMs can be ordered from Starfish Software, which makes the REX Information Manager that users can utilize as a PIM and to synchronize the REX with a desktop PC. Users operate the product with six icons on the display and four push-buttons on the side of the card.

Toshiba Computer Systems' $3,949 Tecra 530CDT Pentium MMX-based notebook computer is a solid system designed for business users. The product ships with an Intel Pentium MMX CPU running at 166MHz, a 10 speed CD-ROM drive, Lithium-ion battery pack, integrated 33.6-Kbps fax modem, a 2.1GB hard disk drive and 32MB of EDO RAM, which can be expanded to 160MB. The Tecra 530CDT also features a 12.1-in active matrix color screen and 265KB of Level 2 cache. The system supports advanced PC Card functionality using CardBus Technology and Zoomed Video, which provided networking and advanced multimedia applications through standard PC Cards. The solid keyboard and intelligent design make the Tecra 530CDT an excellent value.
